The Children of Lir is an Irish legend about King Lir and his four children, Fionnula, Aodh, Fiachra and Conn. Following the death of their mother, Lir married Aoife who grew jealous of his love for his children. In her envy she cast a spell on the children turning them into swans and condemning them to spend nine hundred years on lakes and seas, three hundred years on each of lake Derravaragh, The Sea of Moyle and the Waters of Irrus Domnann. At the end of the nine hundred years, they regained human form and were baptised by Saint Brendan before they died. It is believed that they are buried on Inishglora.
